ABS braking and a vibrating pedal: What the system does and where its limits remain

Last updated: September 15, 2026 Quick Take ABS braking modulates pressure to keep wheels from locking. Noise or pedal vibration during activation is not a reason to pump or release the brake. A repeated vibration during ordinary braking needs separate assessment; the sensation alone does not identify ABS operation.   An unexpected vibration during a hard stop can make a driver hesitate. Understanding what antilock braking controls helps explain that feedback—and why it should not be treated as permission to follow more closely.   ABS intervenes when a wheel is tending to lock Bosch's 2018 technical introduction describes a system that detects impending wheel lock and selectively lowers brake pressure. Keeping the wheels from locking helps preserve steering during hard braking.   The driver is still requesting deceleration. The system adjusts braking pressure in response to wheel behavior. That division of roles matters: feeling the system work does not mean tha...
